I love homemade yogurt. The incubator makes it really easy otherwise it can be tricky.

Carolyn

Thank you for this yogurt recipe. I made this last weekend with 1% milk and it turned out great. The plain yogurt flavor is delicious.

Jennie

Nisrine — I've made it this way a half dozen times and have had great success every time. Yogurt makers do the job quicker, but personally, I'm happy to not clutter the counter with another appliance.

Carolyn — so glad it worked well for you! The tang from the plain yogurt is truly a special thing commercial brands just can't replicate.

I've got vanilla beans just waiting for the right use... and I think I found it today! Brilliant!

Of course, now I'm wishing I was your neighbor so I could check out your discards every couple of months! lol!

Jacquline

I can't wait to try this soon, it sounds delicious!

Oh how i love that vanilla bean paste. I found some at T.J. Max right before Christmas. It was the perfect addition to my marshmallows. Can't wait to try this, and the yogurt!

I would love to make homemade yogurt. My problem, I can't turn the light on in the oven. It comes on when the door is opened. Do you think if I opened the door just far enough to keep the light on, the oven would stay warm enough? I love your blogs!!

Janey

Maybe it's just me being too thick to see it or being too anal ... but how hot is the oven required to be?
Which one will presumably achieve by leaving the light on inside the oven.
I am worrying about:
1) How far open should I leave the oven door?
2) Neither is there any use having a wonderful thermometer if one cannot use it in every step of the process.
I could test the temperature with each width of the door being open but that seems a bit slow.
